Try Simsbury, CT at a different pace! The sixth annual “Try Simsbury” Adventure Triathlon & Duathlon will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 9:00 AM. Originally created by town volunteers to encourage athletic tourism and persuade folks to “Try Simsbury,” the Triathlon & Duathlon highlight Simsbury’s wonderful outdoor assets, including numerous hiking trails, the wild and scenic Farmington River, and terrific bike paths and trails. All race proceeds will be put towards expansion in town - maintaining and/or expanding hiking and biking trails and working towards establishing a boating site.
ABOUT THE RACE
The race will start and finish at the Simsbury Performing Arts Center.
This year’s Adventure Triathlon begins with the Melissa Milan Memorial Run, sponsored by Fleet Feet West Hartford. The run will begin with a lap around the soccer fields, and after waving to family and friends, participants will head off for a 5K trail through Simsbury Meadows. Enjoy running on the lost-but-not-forgotten and now re-established “River Walk” trail system. The Bicycle Cellar Simsbury is the sponsor for the bike section, which is a 2-loop, spectator-friendly ride (approximately 12 miles) on Simsbury’s scenic country roads paralleling the Farmington River. The paddle, sponsored by Collinsville Canoe & Kayak, will begin just under Simsbury’s Landmark Flower Bridge. A 2-mile paddle will take participants upriver first. After the turnaround, enjoy the downriver return paddle under the Flower Bridge to the take-out point, after which participants will finish with a strong run back to the Performing Arts Center Finish. Kayaks will be available for rental.
The Adventure Duathlon will consist of a 5K run, sponsored by Fleet Feet West Hartford, a 12 mile bike ride, sponsored by The Bicycle Cellar Simsbury, and a 5K run back to the finish line.
This year we will also be offering a Kids Fun Run! Sponsored by CrossFit Simsbury, this run will be a 1/2 mile loop around the Simsbury Meadows soccer fields. This run is for kids ages 3-10; cost is $10 and all participants will receive a finisher medal. The Kids Fun Run will take place at 8:30am.
The race is organized by the Town of Simsbury and Race Director Andrea Buono. All race proceeds will be put towards expansion in town - maintaining and/or expanding hiking and biking trails and working towards establishing a boating site.
