Simsbury High School Girls Varsity basketball coach Sam Zullo and his staff and players will be leading these great new programs focusing on techniques and mastering the fundamentals of the game.  Each program is designed for the beginner through experienced player who wants to build on their shooting, ball handling, passing, defense and rebounding skills through quality instruction, drills, scrimmages and games. The program creates a safe, fun and confidence building atmosphere through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.  Participants should wear shorts or sweatpants, sneakers, bring plenty of water and a basketball (please write names on all equipment!). These programs will all be held at HJMS. Parent volunteers will be needed to act as coaches, and all volunteers will go through a coaching clinic with Coach Zullo before the season begins. Anyone who is interested in volunteering, please email Taryn Schrager at tschrager@simsbury-ct.gov so that a list can be created. If a minimum number of volunteers is not met for each program, that program will be cancelled. REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 15TH (unless programs reach capacity prior to that date). 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM    Vinyasa Flow Yoga - Vinyasa Flow Yoga (Mondays)
This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. This practice will incorporate vinyasa flow and posture alignment, while remaining aware of the importance of your breath and core strength. Gain inner awareness, shift mind/body habits & find contentment in your practice. All levels welcome. Please bring a mat, blanket & water. Instructor:  Julie Erasmus, Certified Yoga Instructor. Leslie Gordon, Certified Yoga Instructor, will be occasionally teaching in June.You may drop-in to a Yoga class for $13. Simsbury Spinners Baton Twirling Teams - Winter/Spring 2019Team Twirling Program Description:The Simsbury Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best The Team Twirling program runs from September through June.  Registration is completed twice throughout the school year.   Twirlers are encouraged to twirl the entire school year to fully benefit from the once per week instructional format and enjoy the multiple performance opportunities scheduled. Registration will occur in September for Fall Session (Sept.-Nov/Dec) and then again in January for the Winter/Spring Session (Jan-June). Team placement:Entry level twirlers who are in K-2nd grade will begin on the Crystal Team, entry level twirlers in grades 3rd-6th will begin on the Emerald Team and will practice on Tuesday days. Jr Twirlers (5th -8th grade) will also practice on Tuesday.  Twirlers with 2 or more years of twirling with the Spinners will be place on Teams with twirlers with similar skill levels and age.  As always, Colleen Tighe is available to discuss individual twirlers placement and progress at any time. Schedule: This year's team classes will be taught at Boy Scout Hall (Tuesday Teams) and Henry James Memorial School-back gym (Friday Teams). There will be no classes on Simsbury School Holidays, Vacations or Snow Days. The program creates a safe, fun and confidence building atmosphere through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.  Participants should wear shorts or sweatpants, sneakers, bring plenty of water and a basketball (please write names on all equipment!). These programs will all be held at HJMS. Parent volunteers will be needed to act as coaches, and all volunteers will go through a coaching clinic with Coach Zullo before the season begins. Anyone who is interested in volunteering, please email Taryn Schrager at tschrager@simsbury-ct.gov so that a list can be created. If a minimum number of volunteers is not met for each program, that program will be cancelled. This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. This practice will incorporate vinyasa flow and posture alignment, while remaining aware of the importance of your breath and core strength. Gain inner awareness, shift mind/body habits & find contentment in your practice. All levels welcome. Please bring a mat, blanket & water. Instructor:  Julie Erasmus, Certified Yoga Instructor. This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. This practice will incorporate vinyasa flow and posture alignment, while remaining aware of the importance of your breath and core strength. This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. This practice will incorporate vinyasa flow and posture alignment, while remaining aware of the importance of your breath and core strength. The program creates a safe, fun and confidence building atmosphere through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.  Participants should wear shorts or sweatpants, sneakers, bring plenty of water and a basketball (please write names on all equipment!). These programs will all be held at HJMS. Parent volunteers will be needed to act as coaches, and all volunteers will go through a coaching clinic with Coach Zullo before the season begins. Anyone who is interested in volunteering, please email Taryn Schrager at tschrager@simsbury-ct.gov so that a list can be created. If a minimum number of volunteers is not met for each program, that program will be cancelled. This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. Simsbury Spinners Baton Twirling Teams - Winter/Spring 2019Team Twirling Program Description:The Simsbury Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best The Team Twirling program runs from September through June.  Registration is completed twice throughout the school year.   Twirlers are encouraged to twirl the entire school year to fully benefit from the once per week instructional format and enjoy the multiple performance opportunities scheduled. Registration will occur in September for Fall Session (Sept.-Nov/Dec) and then again in January for the Winter/Spring Session (Jan-June). Team placement:Entry level twirlers who are in K-2nd grade will begin on the Crystal Team, entry level twirlers in grades 3rd-6th will begin on the Emerald Team and will practice on Tuesday days. Jr Twirlers (5th -8th grade) will also practice on Tuesday.  Twirlers with 2 or more years of twirling with the Spinners will be place on Teams with twirlers with similar skill levels and age.  As always, Colleen Tighe is available to discuss individual twirlers placement and progress at any time. Schedule: This year's team classes will be taught at Boy Scout Hall (Tuesday Teams) and Henry James Memorial School-back gym (Friday Teams). There will be no classes on Simsbury School Holidays, Vacations or Snow Days. Junior Performance Team twirlers must exhibit proficiency with vertical 1 spin, Horizontal 1 spin, backhand toss, ½ turn to right, fishtails in both hands, vertical & horizontal finger twirlers, double elbow roll, 2 baton fundamentals. Emerging Skills: vertical & horizontal 2 spin, fishtail carry in both hands, double elbow roll pull out, 1/2 turn to right. Junior Team Twirlers will also support additional performance events, Spinners ACS Twirl-a-thon and will have the opportunity to participate in one northeastern competition. Simsbury High School Girls Varsity basketball coach Sam Zullo and his staff and players will be leading these great new programs focusing on techniques and mastering the fundamentals of the game.  Each program is designed for the beginner through experienced player who wants to build on their shooting, ball handling, passing, defense and rebounding skills through quality instruction, drills, scrimmages and games. The program creates a safe, fun and confidence building atmosphere through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.  Participants should wear shorts or sweatpants, sneakers, bring plenty of water and a basketball (please write names on all equipment!). These programs will all be held at HJMS. Parent volunteers will be needed to act as coaches, and all volunteers will go through a coaching clinic with Coach Zullo before the season begins. Anyone who is interested in volunteering, please email Taryn Schrager at tschrager@simsbury-ct.gov so that a list can be created. If a minimum number of volunteers is not met for each program, that program will be cancelled. REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 15TH (unless programs reach capacity prior to that date). 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM    Vinyasa Flow Yoga - Vinyasa Flow Yoga (Mondays)
This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. This practice will incorporate vinyasa flow and posture alignment, while remaining aware of the importance of your breath and core strength. Gain inner awareness, shift mind/body habits & find contentment in your practice. All levels welcome. Please bring a mat, blanket & water. Instructor:  Julie Erasmus, Certified Yoga Instructor. Leslie Gordon, Certified Yoga Instructor, will be occasionally teaching in June.You may drop-in to a Yoga class for $13.
