Did you ever wonder about the little waterfall and pond at Onion Mountain Park on West Mountain Road? The Simsbury Fish and Game Club has given the Town a limited number of fishing permits to sell to the public for fishing at the Stoddard Reservoir at Onion Mountain Park, and we are offering these on our website. Registration must be accompanied by a $250 permit fee. The fee pays for the cost of stocking for the Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Program. The Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Regulations apply to all members and guests. The fishing season at Stoddard Reservoir for the 2020 Connecticut fishing season is from April 11th through the end of the year. The minimum age to purchase a Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Permit is 18 years old. Note: No Ice Fishing, No Boating and No Floating Devices Permitted. You can purchase your permit on this website and pay with a credit card. You can also visit the Recreation Department, located at Simsbury Farms pool & rink building, to pay by cash. Please read carefully the attached Fishing Regulations, and print out and sign the Regulations Acknowledgement form. This form is required by anyone who purchases a permit, whether online, by mail with a check, or in person. Spend the morning with Food Explorers! You’ll make your lunch and snack, and learn all about food with a Registered Dietitian. You’ll have fun with your food using taste tests, playing nutrition jeopardy and experimenting with new recipes. All recipes will be nut free but may contain dairy and eggs. Grades 2-4. This course is for youth’s age 11 to17 years of age with the most common age of 12 - 14. This is an entry level course intended to teach age appropriate skills necessary to care for children of all ages using team babysitting, mother’s helper and individual babysitting concepts. The course focuses on safety with emphasis on prevention. Other topics include hand washing, diapering, bottle feeding, personal safety and interview skills. Basic first aidand obstructed airway management for a conscious choking adult/child and infant will be covered. First Aid including adult and child CPR (requires passing written and skills testing to receive 2 year certification)Booklet, handouts and Babysitter Safety Certificate of completion included.Bring a snack.Course Time: 5 hours
 
5:45 PM - 7:15 PM    Spinners Baton Twirling Team - Simsbury Spinners - Junior Performance Team
Spinners Twirl Team Winter Program 2020. ~ January through MarchThe Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best  The Winter Twirling program runs from January through March. There will be an additional registration period for Spring Team Twirling form April – 1 st week of June.  Twirlers are encouraged to twirl the entire school year to fully benefit from the once per week instructional format and enjoy the multiple performance opportunities scheduled.  Team placement:   *   Entry level twirlers who are in K-3rd grade will begin on the Crystal Team and will practice on Tuesday or Thursday   *   Entry level twirlers in grades 3rd-6th will begin on the Emerald Team and will practice on Tuesday or Thursday   *   Jr Twirlers (5th -8th grade) will also practice on Tuesday, Friday & Sunday Drop-in  Twirlers with 1 or more years of twirling with the Spinners will be place on Teams with twirlers with similar skill levels and age.  Coach Colleen Tighe is available to discuss individual twirlers placement and progress at any time.  Schedule:This year's winter team classes will be taught at Boy Scout Hall (Tuesday Teams) and Henry James Memorial School-back gym (Friday Teams). There will be no classes on Simsbury School Holidays, Vacations or Snow Days. If your class falls on a Simsbury School Holiday look for scheduled make up on Tuesday/Friday of the same week. Junior Performance Team twirlers must exhibit proficiency with vertical 1 spin, Horizontal 1 spin, backhand toss, ½ turn to right, fishtails in both hands, vertical & horizontal finger twirlers, double elbow roll, 2 baton fundamentals. Emerging Skills: vertical & horizontal 2 spin, fishtail carry in both hands, double elbow roll pull out, 1/2 turn to right. This is a fun & light-hearted vinyasa style yoga class that links breath (pranayama) with movement (asanas), flowing through a series of yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, balance, vitality & detoxification. This practice will incorporate vinyasa flow and posture alignment, while remaining aware of the importance of your breath and core strength. Gain inner awareness, shift mind/body habits & find contentment in your practice. All levels welcome. Simsbury High School Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Sam Zullo directs this program with help of other experienced basketball coaches, parent volunteers and high school player volunteers.  This program is designed for beginner basketball players to work on shooting, ball handling, passing, defense and teamwork through quality instruction, fun games and drills.  The program creates a safe, fun and confidence building environment through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect.Participants should wear shorts or athletic sweatpants and sneakers.  There are water fountains available at the school and basketballs will be provided (if you bring your own ball please write your name on it!).Parent volunteers are needed to act as coaches, and all volunteers will go through a coaching clinic with Coach Zullo before the season begins. This year anyone involved with the program will also be subject to background check at no extra cost.  Please provide volunteer information during the registration process.  If the minimum number of volunteers is not met for each program, that program will be cancelled. REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 20TH (unless programs reach capacity prior to that date). The parent volunteer clinic will be held prior to the season starting - you will be emailed with more information.

Students will explore the food groups in MyPlate! Each class will focus on one food group, starting off with an interactive nutrition activity followed by a hands-on cooking activity. Students will make their own tasty snacks using ingredients from the food group of the day. They will learn the basics of healthy eating with a hands-on approach. This class is nut free! Spinners Twirl Team Winter Program 2020. ~ January through MarchThe Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best  The Winter Twirling program runs from January through March. There will be an additional registration period for Spring Team Twirling form April – 1 st week of June.  Twirlers are encouraged to twirl the entire school year to fully benefit from the once per week instructional format and enjoy the multiple performance opportunities scheduled.  Team placement:   *   Entry level twirlers who are in K-3rd grade will begin on the Crystal Team and will practice on Tuesday or Thursday   *   Entry level twirlers in grades 3rd-6th will begin on the Emerald Team and will practice on Tuesday or Thursday   *   Jr Twirlers (5th -8th grade) will also practice on Tuesday, Friday & Sunday Drop-in  Twirlers with 1 or more years of twirling with the Spinners will be place on Teams with twirlers with similar skill levels and age.  Coach Colleen Tighe is available to discuss individual twirlers placement and progress at any time.  Schedule:This year's winter team classes will be taught at Boy Scout Hall (Tuesday Teams) and Henry James Memorial School-back gym (Friday Teams). Did you ever wonder about the little waterfall and pond at Onion Mountain Park on West Mountain Road? The Simsbury Fish and Game Club has given the Town a limited number of fishing permits to sell to the public for fishing at the Stoddard Reservoir at Onion Mountain Park, and we are offering these on our website. Registration must be accompanied by a $250 permit fee. The fee pays for the cost of stocking for the Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Program. The Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Regulations apply to all members and guests. The fishing season at Stoddard Reservoir for the 2020 Connecticut fishing season is from April 11th through the end of the year. The minimum age to purchase a Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Permit is 18 years old. Note: No Ice Fishing, No Boating and No Floating Devices Permitted. You can purchase your permit on this website and pay with a credit card. You can also visit the Recreation Department, located at Simsbury Farms pool & rink building, to pay by cash. Please read carefully the attached Fishing Regulations, and print out and sign the Regulations Acknowledgement form. This form is required by anyone who purchases a permit, whether online, by mail with a check, or in person. Students will explore the food groups in MyPlate! Each class will focus on one food group, starting off with an interactive nutrition activity followed by a hands-on cooking activity. Spinners Twirl Team Winter Program 2020. ~ January through MarchThe Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best  The Winter Twirling program runs from January through March. There will be an additional registration period for Spring Team Twirling form April – 1 st week of June.  Twirlers are encouraged to twirl the entire school year to fully benefit from the once per week instructional format and enjoy the multiple performance opportunities scheduled.  Team placement:   *   Entry level twirlers who are in K-3rd grade will begin on the Crystal Team and will practice on Tuesday or Thursday   *   Entry level twirlers in grades 3rd-6th will begin on the Emerald Team and will practice on Tuesday or Thursday   *   Jr Twirlers (5th -8th grade) will also practice on Tuesday, Friday & Sunday Drop-in  Twirlers with 1 or more years of twirling with the Spinners will be place on Teams with twirlers with similar skill levels and age.  Coach Colleen Tighe is available to discuss individual twirlers placement and progress at any time.  Schedule:This year's winter team classes will be taught at Boy Scout Hall (Tuesday Teams) and Henry James Memorial School-back gym (Friday Teams). Emerging Skills: vertical & horizontal 2 spin, fishtail carry in both hands, double elbow roll pull out, 1/2 turn to right. Students will explore the food groups in MyPlate! Each class will focus on one food group, starting off with an interactive nutrition activity followed by a hands-on cooking activity. Spinners Twirl Team Winter Program 2020. ~ January through MarchThe Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best  The Winter Twirling program runs from January through March. Twirlers will be challenged to gain proficiency with basic twirls such as flat spin, palm spin w/pop up, side spin, hand-over-hand, thumb toss, forward & reverse twirl and finger twirlers.  Twirlers will register to be on Tuesday or Thursday Team but will have the ability to attend either day on the occasion that regular day was missed or to gain additional practice.  Emerald Team- Tuesday and Thursday 4:45 - 5:45pm 3rd-6th grade This is a 1stand 2ndyear program. It is helpful to have some basic twirl skills but it is not required. These girls will be challenged with more advanced skills and will be required to increase the practice time at home as well as take advantage of periodic drop-in practices opportunities. Junior Performance Team twirlers must exhibit proficiency with vertical 1 spin, Horizontal 1 spin, backhand toss, ½ turn to right, fishtails in both hands, vertical & horizontal finger twirlers, double elbow roll, 2 baton fundamentals. Emerging Skills: vertical & horizontal 2 spin, fishtail carry in both hands, double elbow roll pull out, 1/2 turn to right. Did you ever wonder about the little waterfall and pond at Onion Mountain Park on West Mountain Road? The Simsbury Fish and Game Club has given the Town a limited number of fishing permits to sell to the public for fishing at the Stoddard Reservoir at Onion Mountain Park, and we are offering these on our website. Registration must be accompanied by a $250 permit fee. The fee pays for the cost of stocking for the Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Program. The Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Regulations apply to all members and guests. The fishing season at Stoddard Reservoir for the 2020 Connecticut fishing season is from April 11th through the end of the year. The minimum age to purchase a Stoddard Reservoir Fishing Permit is 18 years old. Note: No Ice Fishing, No Boating and No Floating Devices Permitted. You can purchase your permit on this website and pay with a credit card. You can also visit the Recreation Department, located at Simsbury Farms pool & rink building, to pay by cash. Please read carefully the attached Fishing Regulations, and print out and sign the Regulations Acknowledgement form. This form is required by anyone who purchases a permit, whether online, by mail with a check, or in person. You can mail the signed REGULATIONS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT form (with your check if that is your payment) to Simsbury Recreation Dept., PO Box 455, West Simsbury, CT 06092.
